What is a blog?

The word "blog" is made up of the words "web" and "log". A weblog (or just blog) is a journal, or personal web page, that anyone can post on the web. People who write blogs are called bloggers. Blogs are made up of postings that appear in reverse chronological order- the most recent posting appears at the top of the page and the list goes back to the earliest.
On the side of the blog there is usually a blogroll or sidebar that includes links to additional blogs and websites, or links to the archive of the blog.
Blogs are written by internet users all over the world and they can be on any topic. There are different types of blogs; blogs can be written by one person or by a group. Some blogs are built and maintained by businesses- they are called Biz Blogs. Some blogs are created by mobile phones instead of computers, they are called Moblogs. Blogs can include text, photographs or audio and video files. When a blog is mostly photos it is called a photoblog. Audioblogs are blogs that contain audio files or podcasts posted by the blogger.
You can find blogs on almost any topic that interests you, and if not, you can write your own blog!
Blogs belong to the web 2.0 generation for a few reasons. First, anyone can blog. The blogging software allows people with little or no technical background to post a blog or to maintain it. Second, bloggers can decide to allow their readers to participate in the blog and add posts or comments.
